BORÉALE shutters define the architectural identity of Orange's new innovation campus in CESSON SEVIGNÉ (35)

Built in 1980 in Cesson-Sévigné near Rennes (35), the current site of the French telecommunications company Orange is currently making way for a new real estate complex of nearly 18,000 m2. Designed by the DTACC architecture agency and Legendre Immobilier, the new Orange Atalante Innovation campus aims to bring together researchers and technicians, previously scattered across 4 sites in the Rennes metropolitan area. For this office complex consisting of 3 intertwined buildings, the client and the architect wished to promote a pleasant, innovative and ergonomic working environment, with modern and scalable spaces for the company and its teams, opening onto widely landscaped surroundings. In order to guarantee comfort and solar shading for the future occupants of the Orange Atalante campus, 4,600 m2 of facades were clad with BORÉALE large-format louvered shutters from Tellier Brise-Soleil, a French company specialized in the design and manufacture of sunshades, facade cladding, louvered cladding and shutters. Thus, 1,100 fixed and sliding shutters, with some 35 different dimensions depending on the floors and the exposure of the facades, were installed by the installation company ISORE Bâtiment using mobile platforms.

Custom-made louvered shutters for major projects

Custom-manufactured by Tellier Brise-Soleil, the BORÉALE shutter consists of large-dimension extruded aluminum shutter panels, up to 2 meters in length and 4 meters in height. This fixed or sliding architectural screening shutter is installed without visible fixings in front of bays and windows, to effectively protect commercial buildings and collective housing from solar radiation. In its sunshade configuration, the louver pitch ensures effective solar shading up to an angle of 45°. BORÉALE accepts a wide variety of infills and can slide thanks to the various accessories and guide rails that Tellier Brise-Soleil makes available to installers and joiners. In the "top-hung sliding" version, the BORÉALE shutter, equipped with roller brackets, is hung from the rail fixed at the top. A point or continuous guidance is provided at the bottom to easily slide the shutters. In the "bottom-rolling sliding system" version, the shutter equipped with roller brackets is placed on the guide rail fixed at the bottom. Support at the top is provided by the finishing cover profile and anti-lift brackets fixed onto the BORÉALE shutters.

Simplified installation

For installers, the implementation of BORÉALE shutters from Tellier Brise-Soleil is carried out in a few simple and quick steps, thanks to an invisible fixing system :

• Drilling of the profile and riveting of the U-shaped cover profiles, then the powder-coated rails,
• The guides are clipped onto the rails,
• The shutters are then slid into the U-shaped cover profiles and placed on the assembled bottom rails,
• After adjusting the shutters' anti-lift brackets, the installer fixes the limit stops on the rails.

The delivery of the new Orange Atalante campus was completed at the end of 2019 and will accommodate nearly 900 engineers and researchers in the heart of the Rennes metropolitan area, in new workspaces meeting HQE-certified workspaces, a showcase for the strong environmental ambitions of the telecommunications group.
